Hundreds questioned over Glasgow shooting

Detectives investigating a double shooting were today following up significant new information after questioning hundreds of people.

Hundreds of motorists and pedestrians were quizzed by officers last night around the Glasgow bar where George Redmond, 42, was murdered in a hail of bullets.

He was attacked while leaving the Waldorf bar, Cambridge Street, with his friend John Maguire, also 42.

At least nine shots were fired from an automatic pistol in the attack on October 6 at around 10.30pm.

Mr Redmond, from the east end of Glasgow, died shortly afterwards in hospital. Mr Maguire is still recovering in hospital.

Detectives believe two men were involved in the shooting.

Strathclyde Police questioned around 600 passers-by in the two-hour operation yesterday, 150 of whom were in the area last week.

Detective Superintendent John Riggans, leading the murder investigation, said: "I am delighted with the positive attitude shown by over 600 motorists and pedestrians who were spoken to by the officers.

"Around 150 of them were in the area last week and completed questionnaires.

"The information provided will be scrutinised by officers to see if there is any new information that could move this inquiry forward."

He added: "So far, there are a few significant statements taken which will be followed up."

It was also established that a black Porsche Cayenne, which police believe was involved in the attack, was parked in a side street next to the Thistle Hotel at 9pm on the evening of the attack.

Police also appealed for the drivers of two more cars parked in the area at the time to come forward as they are considered potential witnesses. Both vehicles left the scene shortly after the shooting.

Mr Riggans said: "I would urge members of the public that it is important that we obtain every piece of information which may be pertinent to this investigation."
