Scots designer Kane included in magazine’s first Cool list
Catherine FeganSeptember 02 2008

Leading Scots fashion designer Christopher Kane has been named on Grazia's Cool list as designer-of-the-moment.

Kane, who famously turned down a request from Victoria Beckham to borrow one of his creations, joins Pixie Geldof, Daisy Lowe and supermodel Jourdan Dunn on the magazine's first ever Cool List' of names predicted to be the next big thing' in the style world.

All 30 of the rising stars on the line-up are under 30 years old and have been picked by the fashion industry's leading name as the ones to watch.

After clinching the award for Scottish Designer of the Year in July, 25-year-old Kane, from Newarthill, near Motherwell, has beaten off the competition to win the coveted title. But when you have dressed Kylie Minogue, had a private audience with American Vogue editor Anna Wintour and turned down a job offer from Donatella Versace, its safe to say you are the definition of cool.

Years spent watching The Clothes Show on TV with his big sister Tammy have paid off and the designer now counts Naomi Campbell, Kirsty Hume and Kate Bosworth among his fans. Donatella Versace offered him a full-time job after his degree show but he turned it down to work on his own label with Tammy. He is now a consultant for Versace.

The Grazia Cool List features socialites, models, fashion designers and photographers. Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall's daughter Georgia May is one of the chosen 30 as well as model Alice Dellal's sister, Charlotte, whose shoe label is catching the attention of fashionistas everywhere. Editor of Grazia, Jane Bruton, said fashion lovers should read and memorise the list as it contained the catwalk names of the future.

Kiev-born model Anna Ilnytska, 24, makes it on to the list - she is the face of MAC cosmetics and one of Donnatella Versace's muses as well as Mohamed Al Fayed's daughter Jasmine, 28, who transformed label Jasmine Di Milo and made its sexy party dresses a staple of every fashion-lovers' wardrobe.

The only male model on the list is Nick Hadfield, 20, also a DJ and student, chosen by Erin O'Connor who described him as having "natural style and character".

Paula Reed, style director at Grazia, said: "For out first annual Grazia Cool List we asked some of the industry's biggest names to nominate the brightest new things, the people they really rate. The result is a definitive list of the next generation of fashion stars."
