Police investigating death of ‘gentle giant’ teenager arrest man aged 19

JACK DOYLE

Police investigating the murder of 16-year-old "gentle giant" Jimmy Mizen yesterday arrested a man.

Jimmy, a 6ft 4in committed Christian, was stabbed to death in an "unprovoked and vicious" assault at a bakery in Lee, south-east London on Saturday.

A 19-year-old man is in police custody, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons, who is leading the investigation, said officers had gathered "significant" forensic samples and CCTV footage.

Hundreds of tributes to the teenager have been left on internet forums, some by people from as far away as Sydney, Australia. An online tribute group on the Facebook website has been joined by more than 2900 internet users.

Police have also revealed that a man murdered in London's Oxford Street was stabbed in a row after a drink was thrown. He was named yesterday as Steven Bigby, 22, of north London.

The murder took place after two groups of black men clashed outside a McDonald's restaurant in the bustling shopping street. Detectives are hunting for four men who fled the scene.

Deputy Chief Inspector Bob Mahoney said police were treating it as a "spontaneous incident" and there is nothing to suggest it was gang-related or linked to any other crime.

Why did Jack Doyle find it necessary to include the ethnicity of the "two groups of black men" in the second half of this article yet not inform us of the ethnicity of anyone else? Was this related to the incident at all? It appears not. I cannot believe that Doyle is reporting in such a cliched 80s manner and is prompting me to respond in such a cliched way!

Why did they have to include Jimmy's religious beliefs, was he killed because of them?

Herald. How about leaving people beliefs and ethnicity out of reports unless they are central to the case.
