A pensioner appeared in court today charged with the murder of his 74-year-old wife.

Edwin Brown appeared on petition at Tain Sheriff Court charged with the murder of his wife Ann in the Highland hamlet of Badnaban, Lochinver, on Wednesday.

Mr Brown, 72, of Hollycroft, Badnaban, made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

He was committed for further examination and is expected to appear at Wick Sheriff Court for full committal on Friday May 16.
