Two students at St Andrews University yesterday appeared to enjoy taking part in the annual freshers' ritual, dating back centuries, which has evolved into a massive foam fight.
Every year in November, undergraduates at Scotland's oldest university participate in Raisin Weekend, where student "parents" inflict tasks on the unfortunate first years they have adopted as "children" as part of a mentoring scheme. The weekend experience came to an end yesterday with a foam fight in the normally tranquil St Salvator's quadrangle.
The popular event faced an uncertain future in 1997 after incidences of vandalism and drunkenness.
