Police said today that a 32-year-old man has been arrested over the death of a husband who died after a night out with his wife.

Joseph McCulloch, 39, was killed and his wife Jeanette, 37, was seriously injured in a disturbance in Johnstone, Renfrewshire.

The couple were just yards from their home when the disturbance happened.

Mr McCulloch died at the scene as a result of the injuries he suffered in the incident at 1.20am on Sunday November 11.

His wife was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, where her condition is described as "stable".

Police launched a murder inquiry and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

A Strathclyde Police spokesman today said: "A 32-year-old man has been arrested and is presently detained in police custody in connection with the death."

The man is expected to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court tomorrow and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
