Matthew ColledgeSeptember 05 2007

A MAN was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after an incident in Chard last night that left a car on its roof and two people injured.

Police say a Vauxhall Nova overturned after a collision with a Volkswagen Passat at Catch Gate Lane at 6.20pm.

A person in the Vauxhall was trapped in a front seat and was freed by fire crews before being taken to hospital in Taunton.

A female passenger in the rear of the Vauxhall was also taken to hospital but nobody was believed to be seriously hurt.

The road was closed for four hours while police carried out investigations.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a 21-year-old Crewkerne man, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and was also questioned about other motoring offences.

Anybody with information about the incident is asked to contact the police collision investigation unit on 0845-4567000.
