Radiohead soundtrack for ballet
ALISON CHIESAJune 08 2007

Scottish Ballet is to premiere a production at Edinburgh International Festival, to the music of Radiohead.

Choreographer Stephen Petronio, an avid fan of the band, has chosen to set Ride The Beast to their music.

He has selected five tracks spanning Radiohead's career to "complement the layered complexity and primal nature of his new work", said Scottish Ballet.

The production will open with Fitter Happier, from the hugely successful OK Computer album, released a decade ago. Explaining his musical choice, Petronio said: "Radiohead's music is a brilliant investigation of achingly modern taste. They sail through genre and form effortlessly and passionately, and their music demands a physical response from me that by-passes reason. I have to live with music so intimately while creating with it, I simply have to work with music I love."

Petronio has previously formed partnerships with Rufus Wainwright, Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, James Lavelle and Wire.

Ride The Beast will be performed by Scottish Ballet at Edinburgh Playhouse from August 18 to 20.
