The aunt and uncle of abducted four-year-old girl Madeleine McCann yesterday appealed directly to the tens of thousands of Spanish football fans arriving in the city for the Uefa Cup final tonight.
Philomena McCann and her brother John - the brother and sister of Gerry McCann, Madeleine's father - visited the media centre in Glasgow where scores of journalists from across Europe were gathering ahead of the match between Sevilla and Espanyol and posed with the cup itself, which had yellow ribbons tied to it for the occasion.
The family have said they believe it is possible Madeleine may have been taken over the Portuguese border into Spain, which is why they have been keen to raise awareness in the neighbouring country.
Ms McCann, a high school teacher from Ullapool, said they will lobby MPs at Westminster today.
She said: "Mohammed Sarwar, the Glasgow MP, has been instrumental in moving this campaign forward and has been a source of comfort during a very trying time.
"With his help we have engagements in London. We will attend Prime Minister's question time and lobby MPs and lords in Westminster, where we will hand out yellow ribbons.
"Then we hope to meet Tony Blair, and possibly Gordon Brown as well, to ask them what is being done."
Images of Madeleine greeted the first wave of Spanish football fans who descended on Glasgow yesterday.
The case has received little publicity in Spain, but some of the early Spanish arrivals in Glasgow were presented with leaflets describing the plight of missing Madeleine.
Images of the little girl were also flashed up at two specially-created fan zones for the visiting Spaniards in Glasgow.
Espanyol fan Manuel Garcia, 69, from Barcelona, said: "It's very sad. Not many people in Barcelona know much about it, but maybe this can help."
Pat O'Donnell, a volunteer at Glasgow Cathedral, handed out more than 100 leaflets to visiting Spaniards gathering in George Square. He said: "The younger people haven't really heard about the case, while the older ones have.
"It was a quirk of fate that Madeleine went missing at the same time as the match, and so we are trying to target as many fans as possible for help."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
