HUNDREDS of people sampled a slice of French cuisine during a special event in Lewisham.

The high street was transformed into an authentic French market on November 18.

More than 30 traders from Le Harve, in Normandy, joined Lewisham's market to make it a bumper event.

Produce on sale included cheese, wines, champagne, crepes, jewellery, herbs and perfume.

Deputy Mayor Councillor Gavin Moore said: "I am delighted the market has returned to Lewisham, it was a great chance for residents and visitors to sample a taste of France, while enjoying the atmosphere of our established market."

It was organised by Lewisham Council's street trading section, with support from Lewisham shopping centre, following the success of last year's visit.
