Schoolboy diagnosed with tuberculosis

A schoolboy has been diagnosed with tuberculosis.

The 17-year-old pupil at St Andrew's High School in Clydebank is being treated for the disease, although he is not thought to be infectious.

All his classmates in S6 and other people who have been in close contact with the boy are to be screened as a precautionary measure.

Dr Syed Ahmed, Consultant in Public Health Medicine for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said: "There is no need for either pupils or teachers at the school to be worried. This is an isolated case and not an outbreak.

"In keeping with national guidance we are screening all close contacts, including pupils in the patient's class.

"Letters have been issued to pupils giving details of the screening dates and offering advice and information."

Close contacts are those who spend at least three to four hours a day with the affected perso
