Stricter regulations for paranormal industry
Psychics and alternative medicine practitioners will face their toughest regulation yet under new rules expected to come into force next month.
Businesses that make promises they cannot keep - or even prove - will be subject to new European consumer protection regulations in the biggest shake-up of consumer rights in a generation. Westminster's Department for Business is backing the new powers with teams of dedicated trading standards
officers seeking out rogue traders, whether they are roofers or
reflexologists.
Spiritualists, if the new regulations are approved by the UK Parliament, will have to offer numerous riders about their services if they are to avoid civil actions. The new rules will bring to an end the Fraudulent Mediums Act, a 50-year-old law introduced to replace 18th-century witchcraft legislation.
Providers of alternative therapies will also be expected to adhere to the new regulations.
The rules are designed to crack down on all kinds of rogue traders guilty of unfair selling.
Gareth Thomas, Consumer Affairs Minister, said: "Life is going to get tougher for the small minority of rogue traders who treat customers with contempt, pressuring, bullying or lying their way into making a sale."
The regulations will ban outright practices such as bogus closing-down sales, prize-draw scams, aggressive doorstep selling, offering free gifts that are not really free and displaying false accreditations.

As a tarot reader, i always say to a client, that what I am about to tell is not written in stone. You have free will and can change the future for yourself. The tarot or any other type of divination is only a guild to what COULD happen if things move as they are doing. You can change your own future. What I am about to do is give you a spiritual insight into your questions. Tarot reading is a bit like predicting the weather. Were the forcaster looks at air pressure, wind speed, cloud formations etc, to tell me I may need my umbrella on Tuesday. A tarot reader looks at the spread of cards, and relates them to the persons question, to give an insight into what may happen if things stay on course. It is not fortune telling.
This new Act has it's good and bad points. yes it will help stop the fake trades men, though they have always found a way round other legislation in the past. On the other hand, Spiritualists do follow a religion, and are being asked to prove their beliefs. Without any disrespect to believers, are they going to ask a Catholic Priest to prove he can change bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ? Surely this claim is the same thing?

I hope so — all the religious charlatans should be subject to legislation.

Once again the Eurocrats take a little bit of the spice out of life.
I believe that psychics, card-readers, palmists, etc. are for entertainment only but I'm not about to wet all over the beliefs of those who think they're 'for real'.
Whatever happened to caveat emptor?

I wanted to be a fortune teller when I left school, but I couldn't see any future in it.
Do they ever cancel due to unforseen circumstances?

[bold]I am so very glad to see that there is a forum here for questions regarding psychics, "so called psychics", charlatans, and the like.
I do not think anyone should misrepresent their skills in any profession. From plastic surgeons with false credentials to psychics promising to return your soul mate to you in twenty-four hours (for a huge price, mind you), those who are scam artists should be exposed.
NO PSYCHIC IS 100% accurate!
NO ONE can return someone - or something - to you by candles and roots and the like! They will return or they won't! It will be found and returned or it won't. Do not let anyone take your money from you for these things.
I am a working clairvoyant who, obviously, does believe in psychics. I know, however, that there are many fakes and they should not be allowed to bilk the vulnerable public.
A good psychic will guide you, will be able to tell you things that they could not have known by normal means and they will be compassionate and on-judgmental. They will charge you for their time, not their gift which came to them without charge. The rate they charge you for their time should be consistent. It should never cost more to talk about a soul mate than it should to talk about your career!
It angers me when I hear about these "fake" psychics because they do exist and they give those of us working in the field with integrity a very bad name.
I will get off my soap box now!
Do not be ripped off!
Thanks for listening to my vent,
Ellen[/bold]
