The Croydon Folk and Blues Club celebrates its 11th music festival on Sunday July 15, with non-stop performances and plenty of fun for all the family in the beautiful grounds of Ruskin House writes Louise Cole.

The Folk and Blues Festival kicks off at 1pm with an opening set from the Rhythm Dogs, a five man group playing R&B favourites from the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan.

They set the tone for non-stop music throughout the day, with a cornucopia of local artists covering a wide-range of musical styles.

Colcannon, a family group, offers gaelic folk at 3.30pm, Peter Baldwin does Springsteen at 4pm and Rude Mood will play Stevie Ray Vaughn numbers at 4.20pm.

The accomplished folk-pop duo Sweet Thing will showcase some of their original material in a half-hour slot at 5.30pm.

The festival is set in the beautiful walled gardens of Ruskin House on Coombe Road.

It will feature a bouncy castle and face painting for children, and a barbeque. “We aim to give our musicians a great place to perform and local people a good day out for all the family,” says Garry Davis, organiser.

The festival also marks an opportunity for the Club to donate £600 to its chosen charity Great Ormond Street Hospital; this is money raised at its weekend music sessions throughout the year.

Admission is £3 for adults and free to accompanied children.

The event runs in the garden until 8pm and then moves inside until 11pm. For more
