Gwynne Berry was handed a dream start as Dulwich Hamlet manager on Saturday.

On a day when the Ryman League programme was once again wrecked by the weather, Hamlet recorded a 1-0 victory over Heybridge Swifts at Champion Hill.

Berry's players rolled their sleeves up and decided something had to be done to turn their disastrous season around.

It was by no means a classic game but a fabulous result when you consider Heybridge had only been beaten five times before this season.

New signing Alex Dyer formerly of Crystal Palace and Oxford United played up front for Dulwich who had some good attacks in the first half.

Joe Nartey had two efforts which brought good saves from Kingsley Banks in the Heybridge goal.

But the game remained scoreless until two minutes from time when substitute Veli Hakki's free kick found Dave Richards who hammered home the winner.

The goal gave Dulwich only their third league win of the season but at least it is something for Berry to build on.

Second from bottom Croydon FC missed out on much-needed revenue when their game at home to Sutton United was called off on Saturday.

But they picked up a good point on Monday when they drew 1-1 at home to Hampton & Richmond Borough.

Hampton were leading 1-0 through Leroy Griffiths' goal when their keeper Chris Andrews was stretchered off.

Les Cleevely, Croydon's new keeper, made some good saves in the first half.

But the home side put high-flying Hampton under intense pressure half and they equalised after 67 minutes when Ben Judge lashed the ball home.

There was financial relief for Whyteleafe in the fact they were able to play their Division One match with Northwood.

But the match itself didn't go top plan even though Leafe went ahead in the first minute.

A poor clearance hit Steve Lunn and the ball finished up in the net.

Northwood equalised after 22 minutes when Fitzgerald climbed to head home at the far post. And the visitors took the lead eight minutes later when prolific striker Lawrence Yuku scored, despite a hint of offside.

Leon Dillon had the ball in the net in the closing stages of the game but his effort was given offside.

The weather also put paid to Croydon Athletic's game against Clapton in Division Three.

It appears the Ryman League will be prepared to allow clubs to complete their fixtures after their scheduled cut-off of May 5 a relief to many sides who are facing three games a week between now and the end of the season.

Saturday's matches St Albans v Croydon; Chesham v Dulwich; Staines v Whyteleafe; Dorking v Croydon Athletic.
