Mild, sunny weather and plenty of fish welcomed the junior section of West Ewell Angling Club, when they had a match at Rushmoor Lake on Sunday.

There is always an experienced angler with every youngster, which is important when some are as young as three. Top youngster on the day was six year old Sam Keavney, with 4lb 8oz.

Sam has got to be a cracking little angler in the making, as he managed to win, despite the burden of having me as his helper and deserved his prize of a keepnet and bag donated by Alan Landymore.

Eleven year old Chris Baxter, helped by his Dad, was second on 4lb, and took home a landing net and handle, kindly donated by John Craggs.

Third place was a real family affair with Martin Keavney, brother of winner Sam, helped by both dad Tom and mum Francis. Martin's 3lb 12oz earned him a reel donated by Len White of Surbiton Angling.

Fourth place went to seven year old Leanne Hawkins, helped by dad Neil. Her 2lb 8oz earned her a landing net handle given by Len White. All the bait for the day was given by Bankside Tackle.

Back at West Ewell Social Club, every junior who took part received a bag of tackle given by the Angling Times and their smiles grew even bigger when Alan Landymore and Tom Keavney chipped in with £50 worth of sweets.
