NW London Euro-MP Robert Evans will be one of Labour's top three candidates in next year's European Parliamentary elections.

Mr Evans, whose constituency covers Harrow, Brent and Hillingdon, was one of a number of prospective candidates selected by a party panel given the task of drawing up a list of 10 names to fight the election in London in June.

The elections are being fought on a list system, which means electors will vote just for a party, rather than individual candidates. The seats will then be shared among the parties in proportion to the votes cast for each. The higher up the party list a candidate is, the more likely it is that he or she will be elected.

Mr Evans was delighted with the outcome of his party's deliberations.

"The task now is to explain to Londoners the importance of the elections and the tangible benefits of our membership of the European Union whilst continuing the campaign to promote the interests of the capital in Europe," he said.
