Progress on Croydon's exciting £200 million Tramlink light railway network is one of the many topics to be discussed at the next meeting of the Millennium Forum on October 24.

The event, starting at 6.30pm in the Arnhem Gallery, Fairfield Halls, is open to anyone in the borough who wishes to know more about Croydon's plans for the millennium.

The purpose of the meeting is to ensure that everyone who lives and works in the borough is kept up-to-date on planned activities.

Speakers will include David Gibbons, former council urban planner who is directing the £4.2 million Millennium Commission-backed Skyline lighting project. Another senior figure will be present to advise how funding for local projects can be obtained from the £100 million Millennium Festival fund, and Fairfield's chief executive Derek Barr will reveal how the town's best known entertainment centre will be marking the occasion.

There will be display stands with contributions from bodies involved in millennium projects. Among those invited are local community groups and businesses who will have the opportunity to promote their own involvement in the Millennium festivities.

The organisers also hope that a volunteer programme can be launched encouraging local people to take an active role in the management and staffing of festival events.

Anyone wishing to attend the forum should contact co-ordinator Addy Bloch on 0181 253 1017.
