We would like to bring to the attention of New Malden residents that, further to the refusal of planning permission by the Kingston Council of a `night club' type café (Bar Med) in St Georges Square, a public meeting is being convened

by the Department of Environment on October 27, 1998 at the Guildhall, Kingston.

The meeting will consider an appeal against the decision to refuse Planning Permission by the developers, Creston Land and Estates PLC of Mayfair.

The initial refusal was taken in the light of a massive campaign by us, to the planning department of Kingston Council. We now intend to continue the campaign to get the Dept of Environment to uphold the council's decision.

We are concerned by the fact that already there are four Public Houses and one Wine Bar within a half mile of St Georges Square, and with New Malden Police Station being closed there will be insufficient policing of the area.

Consider the impact of `Sugar Ray', the wine bar, and multiply it... Loud music, mindless drunken behaviour, dangerous parking and driving of cars, vandalism, use of illegal drugs and associated crime - is this what New Malden needs?
