Tooting and Mitcham are unlikely to let in too many goals this season. But they must sign a proven striker soon if they are to make a realistic challenge for promotion.

Manager Jimmy Bolton was hoping to have someone in place for tomorrow's trip to Harlow as the News went to press earlier this week.

Bolton was hoping for three points against Witham on Saturday but his Sandy Lane side could only manage a point in their first home league game of the season.

The visitors came looking for a draw but went in front on the breakaway after 20 minutes.

Tooting clawed their way back into it with a Ricardo Bhola equaliser just before half time.

But despite creating chances in the second half the home side's lack of firepower meant they had to settle for a point.

Monday's match at Chalfont was a similar story. Tooting created enough chances to win the game comfortably but they lacked the finishing touch.

The result means Tooting have drawn two and lost one of their opening three games.

Bolton told the News: "We had chances to win both games. If we'd had a striker who knew how to find the net then I think we would have done that. Hopefully things will turn around tomorrow."
