It was great to see the two articles about lovely green spaces which we have in Harrow and the birdlife which can be found there (Times Series, August 13). Can I however add to the list?

Please don't forget that Harrow has many parks too which are a valuable asset. Harrow Recreation Ground is completely surrounded by houses and many people are not aware of its existence. It has a circular path of one mile and many mature trees, making it a very pleasant place to walk.

It also boasts the usual garden birds and some more unusual ones, like redwings, grey wagtails and the sparrowhawk.

It is lovely to walk around on a summer evening and see the beautiful sunset and to watch the various sports played there including cricket, croquet and tennis on both grass and hard courts. The park also has a putting green for all ages to use.

In spring the trees are wonderful and the bulbs provide a welcome splash of colour. So don't overlook these valuable open spaces.

Our fun day will be on September 6, so if you haven't ventured into the "rec" before, come along from 2pm to 4.30pm and see the park, listen to the band or take part in various activities. We value our open space and hope others do too.
