With their senior side beginning another FA Carling Premiership campaign at Wimbledon, Tottenham Hotspur will be giving some of their possible stars of the future an outing at Meadow Park this Saturday afternoon, as their U19 squad arrives for Wood's last pre-season match before the big kick off a week later at Dagenham.

Under the stewardship of former West Ham favourite, Pat Holland, the young Spurs reached the play-off final of the FA Premier Youth League last term, losing 2-1 over two legs to Arsenal. Their second leg win at Highbury was televised live by Sky Sports.

Now overseen by director of football, David Pleat, the development programme at White Hart Lane has contributed the likes of Ian Walker, Stephen Carr and Sol Campbell to the current Spurs first-team squad, and Holland's boys will provide an intriguing test as Bob Makin fine tunes his own line-up.

The draw was made recently for the FA Umbro Trophy, which has seen so many Wood successes lately, and they have been given an away tie at Ryman Division One side Molesey on October 24 in round one.

The major FA competitions have all received an overhaul in their formats, dispensing with the qualifying rounds for the Trophy, and seeing all Ryman Premier Division clubs enter the FA Cup in the 2nd qualifying round, which is scheduled for October 3.

In the Herts Senior Cup, last term's beaten finalists Wood visit Third Division Ware in the first round, a match due to be played the week commencing November 16. The next meeting of Friends of Boreham Wood is to be held tonight (Thursday) at the club.
