Braughing 116 OH 117-5
Herts Division Two
Old Haberdashers maintained their recent good form with a win over Braughing to move up to 13th spot in the division.
And with matches against lowly opposition to come, skipper Haroon Ahmed is confident that his side can rise even further up the table.
"We've got Parkfield, Baldock and Datchworth coming up, and I'm sure that we can make the top ten," he said.
But Haroon quipped: "Having said that, I still think that we'll need to win two of our remaining six games to avoid relegation!"
Star performers on the day were Steve Larder and Mike Filer.
Larder scored a magnificent half century as his side chased a target of 116.
The visitors were reduced to such a paltry total mainly because of the efforts of Filer, who claimed five wickets in a destructive 14-over spell.
OH opening batsman Rick Harris (24) got his side off to a good start.
Following the dismissal of the opener and his partner Mike Taylor (0), Larder came in and hit his breathtaking knock.
Alan Phipps, Saed and stand-in captain Will Russell all chipped in with scores.
It was left to Brendan Foley and Russell to hit the winning runs.
Said Haroon Ahmed: "We made the decision to start the game with seven batsmen and it paid off.
"They struggled to find any sort of rhythm to their batting and we played well."
Old Habs face Letchworth this Saturday (1.30pm start).
Paul Eversfield, who missed Saturday's game, is expected to return.
