Ks boss Geoff Chapple is hot on the heels of a new goalkeeper with both Football League and Conference experience to join current custodian Jerome John at Kingsmeadow.

Chapple says he has been in constant contact with the keeper while his transfer target has been abroad but his message to Kingstonian fans eager for new signings is to be patient.

A staggering 69 hopeful players turned out for training on Tuesday night because the Ks will field not just a first team in the Conference this year but also a reserve string in the Suburban League.

Chapple said: "I'm looking for a squad of 18 players. At the moment I'm down to 14 but I'm not panicking and I know that in the last few weeks before the season lots of people come knocking on your door.

"I know it's right to bide your time and not snap up the first person who arrives because I'm not after people who are just following the money now we're in the Conference."
