TOTTENHAM Hotspur defender Colin Calderwood flew home from France on Wednesday with his World Cup dream in tartan tatters.

The Scottish international broke two bones in his hand during his side's 1-1 draw with Norway on Tuesday and it looks to have ended his tournament after just two matches.

Calderwood flew back to London on Wednesday afternoon and was sent straight to hospital for an operation on the damaged digits in his right hand, but it seems highly unlikely that he will make a return to France for Scotland's final game against Morocco on Tuesday June 23. If they get through that with a win and progress to the second round, Calderwood may be fit, but again, it seems unlikely.

"I am totally devastated," he said. "I was looking forward to this World Cup for so long and now it seems it's all over."

Scotland boss Craig Brown said: "I am sorry for Colin and sorry for the team.

"He has been a vital part of our defence for the last three or four seasons and to lose him is a real setback.

"Added to that, Darren Jackson is suspended for the next game so we are without two key members of the squad for what is a vitally important game."~
