Fears are growing this week for the safety of a missing 14-year-old girl who is believed to be living with drug users in Croydon.

Laura Griffin has been missing from her home in Watford for more than six weeks, after her dad dropped her off at school on May 5.

The only lead Hertfordshire detectives have is that she may be in Croydon using the false name of Renette Whelan.

A spokesman said: "Though her parents say there were a few problems at home, they're extremely anxious for Laura to get in touch and let them know she is safe and well.

``The longer the family goes without hearing anything, the more fears grow for her safety."

Laura, who is around 5ft 2ins with dark brown hair, is believed to be living with two older men who police say are "into the drug scene."

These men are aged about 28, one called Steve and the other Andy.

Laura has a small scar on the fourth finger of her right hand and was last seen wearing a black puffa jacket and black trousers. Appeals for news of the missing teenager have been made across London and Hertfordshire and now detectives are hoping one or more Croydon residents have seen her in the borough.

Anyone who thinks they may have seen her should call Det Sgt Mick Rogers at Watford CID on 01923 472 065.

Laura is also urged to call either him or the National Missing Persons Helpline on 0500 700 700.
