Richmond 178
Finchley 140-6
Finchley, who lost to Purley by 82 runs in the Abbott Ale Cup, have been reinstated in the national competition after their opponents were disqualified for including an in eligible player, believed to have played a key role in the Surrey side's success.
They'll be looking to take full advantage during their fourth-round visit to Malden Wanderers on Sunday.
Semi-finalists in the Evening Standard Cup last season, when they threw away a good winning chance against Sevenoakes Vine with a batting collapse, Finchley are away to Uxbridge in the first round on Sunday, June 21.
They get an ideal opportunity to weigh up their cup opponents in an all-day Middlesex County League match at Uxbridge on Saturday.
Finchley should have collected ten points from their all-day game at Richmond on Saturday, but twice let their opponents off the hook and had to settle for four run-rate points.
Put in by Finchley skipper Glucka Wijesuriya on a slow and difficult wicket, Richmond were soon deep in trouble at 44-5. Two early successes for Kirthi Ranasinghe (3-23) reduced Richmond to 2-12.
After star batsman Paul Bail soon fell to a good catch by Aron Laraman, off Jamie Whelan, Daminda Wijesekera (3-40 off 25 overs) claimed two victims during another fine stint of leg-spin, and half the home side were back in the pavilion.
Though Nick Morell resisted during a painfully slow innings, scoring 32 off 101 deliveries, Jake Milton (3-51), Finchley's other in-form leg-spinner, again got among the wickets, and Richmond slipped to 143-9.
However, the visitors were held up during a last-wicket stand of 35, before Richmond were all out for 178, off a mammoth 80 overs.
Steve Selwood (7) and Wijesuriya (22) gave Finchley a steady start in a stand of 32, before Selwood departed, and Wijesuriya soon followed without addition.
Laraman hit a fine 40 off 57 balls, partnered by Robbie Hodges (14) in a stand of 40, but Finchley again fell behind the run-rate.
Ranasinghe (7) and Graham Leggett (0) fell quickly, but Whelan (21 no) and Milton (17 no) shared an unbroken partnership of 41 to steer Finchley comfortably to the run-rate points at 140-6, off 48 overs.
OTHER RESULTS: Finchley II 200 (E Hodges 80, N Sen 53), Richmond 201-2.
Finchley III 202-8 (W Jordan 72), Richmond III 113-9 (K Bharadia 4-42).
Finchley 180-9dec (N Sen 93), Sundbury 181-5 (S Haider 3-69).
Finchley II 199 (J Herd 51), Sunbury II 167 (S Blyghton 5-42, G Matthews 3-31).

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
