The Borehamwood Times is teaming up with Hertfordshire Premier champions Radlett Cricket Club and giving local companies the chance to play for a special Cup -- the Borehamwood Times Cup.

The event, which will be held in July at the club in Cobden Hill, Radlett, is part of a charity fun day aimed at raising funds for the Borehamwood Centre for the Disabled and the development of the club.

The money will be split equally between the charity and the club, which wants to improve its pavilion and changing rooms to enable more people to enjoy the game including youngsters, women and disabled teams.

"Work on the development is almost complete," said the club's charity organiser, Michael Browne. "These improvements will enable the club to support its colts (U10 to U17) even more as well as increase the Borehamwood Centre for the Disabled's use of the facilities."

The competition is a new event which any local businesses can enjoy. It will take the form of a six a side cricket competition where players do not necessarily have to be world beaters -- just enjoy the fun of cricket. Each team will play a minimum of three matches with play offs and final.

Companies wanting to take part are being asked for sponsorship of £500 per team and if you wish, your company name will be advertised on the day and also appear in the Borehamwood Times.

The event looks set set to be a fun-filled day. After coffee in the morning, four matches will be played on each square.

There will then be a lunch provided, which will include wine, before two more matches are played on each square.

After a buffet tea, the play off for third and fourth place gets underway before the final is played at the end of the day.

Organisers say the competition is a way to raise funds for charity and the club as well as enjoy a day of light-hearted cricket on a (hopefully) warm, summer day.

It does not take place until Friday July 24, so there is still plenty of time to get out a bat and ball, get a team together and get in some practice. However applications must be in by June 13 so don't delay.

Any local businesses interested in taking part should write to Mr Browne at 253 Watling Street, Radlett, Herts WD7 7AL. by CAROLINE IMPEY
