Gordon Swindles and Caroline Brown took top honours in the Metros Running Club's annual Marathon Week -- a novel 26. 2 -- mile run spread across five days using all different types of terrain.

A four kilometre run across the sands at Ruislip Lido on Monday was followed by a 13 kilometre run around the streets of Harrow on Tuesday, a punishing hill run up and down Harrow Hill on Wednesday, a cross country through local woods on Thursday and a 5,000 metres around Bannister Stadium on Friday.

Twenty five Metros took part and Gordon Swindles completed the event in 2 hours 50 minutes and 15 seconds.

Caroline, 21, who ran her first ever marathon when she completed the London event last month, was the first lady home in 3 hrs 37mins 12 secs.

Following Gordon home in the men's event were David Cronk (2hrs 59 mins 13 secs), Tony Sherwin (3 hrs 1 min 13 secs), Richard Brown (3 hrs 3 mins 57 secs) and Steve Penny (3 hrs 6 mins 37 secs).

Metros finishing behind Caroline were over-45 runner Petra Otto, (3 hrs 45mins 37 secs), Manuela Barth (3 hrs 59 mins 10 secs), Jasia Zimmerman (4 hrs 6 mins 52 secs) and over-50 competitor Anne Leigh (4 hrs 10 mins 1 sec).

Masterminds behind the event, as in previous years, were Jane Young and Jill McBride.
