Hurst 233-8

Bessborough 180-8

Bessborough finally avoided defeat in the Thames Valley League at the fourth attempt, but they still failed to overcome their opponents on their visit to Hurst on Saturday.

Ben Murray and John Taylor bowled tidily in an opening spell which saw the hosts pegged back to 48 off the first 20 overs.

But Hurst recovered well and once the opening pair departed they savaged the spin attack of Nick Wale and Sunhil Bhatia as they accelerated the run rate to close at 233-8.

Despite the early loss of Dean Wilson, Bessborough made steady progress towards three figures without further loss as Paul Snelling (72) and Duncan West (32) gave their side a solid platform from which to launch their attack on the target.

But it was an attack that was never to materialise as the middle order batting folded.

After such a promising start it was left to skipper Graham Sainsbury and Nick Wale to salvage what bonus batting points they could as they nursed the side to 180-8 at the close.

Steve Wale scored his maiden century for Bessborough against local rivals Harrow St Mary's on Sunday.

He shared stands of 111 with Graeme West (55) and 116 with Kulwinder Singh (60no) as Bessboorugh raced to 227-1 declared.

Harrow St. Mary's found the leg spin of Kenyan newcomer Zafia Din (3-40) difficult to fathom, but Tony White (66) and David Levy-Beard (21) added 96 in the 15 overs to set up an interesting finale.

But with their departure the visitors effort petered out and they finished on 177 -7.

Norman Whalley's 5-48 wasn't enough to give Bessborough's second eleven a win against Slough. Whalley had helped restrict the Slough total to 220-8 at the close, but Bessborough could only reach 199-6 in reply and had to settle for a draw, Doug Reeve hit 68.

The third eleven had a 14 run victory picking up 25 win points against Hurst.

Thirty-nine from Andrew Gibson helped Bessborough, who batted first to 168 all out and John Lewis took 5-60 as Hurst were dismissed for 155.
