Boxing sensation Daniel Cadman claimed his third national title at the weekend at the Aston Villa Sports Centre in Birmingham.

The 17-year-old Repton fighter picked up the 67-71 kilo class junior ABA belt after an outstanding points victory against Tom Shaw of the Sporting Ring Club in Camberwell.

It was a tremendous performance from the Waltham Abbey youngster who had to battle past two other national champions on the way to the five-round final.

In the quarter final he outscored Liverpools Martin Briggs before a hard-hitting semi-final win over John Varney.

His coach at the famous old East End club, George Bowers, said: It was a tremendous performance to beat three national champions.

In the final his opponent was running like a scared rabbit and hardly landed a punch on Daniel. It was a very comfortable victory.

Cadman has won 22 of his 25 bouts since joining Repton home of former greats such as John H Stracey and Maurice Hope.

Now the question is, can he step up into the senior ranks? Bowers is in no doubt about that. He is a big strong lad but he is also a clever boxer, he said. He is already sparring with 25-year-olds because there is nobody at the club who can touch him in his age group.

You never know with boxing but he is very dedicated to the sport and takes his training seriously.

It looks as if Daniels prowess in the ring is already rubbing off on his younger brother Louis. He is also at Repton and last week toured Sweden with a team from the club.

Bowers said: Louis is a great prospect as well it looks as though they are a real boxing family.
