Boreham Wood 2 Enfield 1.

(Ryman Premier League).

FIELDING two new signings in the shape of Brian Hammett from Hayes and Robert Bourne from Aylesbury, Enfield were hopeful of at least a point against promotion chasing Boreham Wood last Tuesday evening.

But for a poor refereeing decision in the final minute that is precisely what they would have had, but a headed goal from Steve Heffer that proved to be the winner was allowed to stand, despite the fact that Es keeper Andy Pape had clearly been fouled beforehand.

Pape protested vehemently and was booked as a result adding more misery to an already disappointing result.

Enfield had gone ahead in the 63rd minute after a goalless first half in which Dave Venables and new boy Hammett had good chances.

It was John Deadman who got the breakthrough from a free kick. He curled a delightful shot past Wood keeper Taylor but the lead lasted just four minutes.

Ex-E Marshall pounced on the ball at close range to equalise but although Wood made most of the running from then on the Es defence looked capable of holding out for the point.

But Heffers late winner ruined the dream and the Es even had a penalty appeal turned down during the six minutes of injury time when Steve Darlington was hauled over in the box. Sadly for them the referee saw the incident otherwise.

On a happier note, the youth team confirmed their champions status with a comfortable 2-0 win over Potters Bar on the same evening.

Dean Nyman scored both Es goals, one in each half, and looks to be a real prospect for the future.

Enfields Saturday fixture at Carshalton was postponed owing to the waterlogged nature of the

pitch.
