ENGLAND Monarchs American football team made a poor start to their campaign in the new NFL Europe League on Sunday when they were well beaten by Frankfurt at Crystal Palace.
The Monarchs, playing south of the river for the first time at the National Sports Centre -- their new home venue -- were no match for Frankfurt. It took just 90 seconds for Damon Huard to release a 48-yard touchdown pass to Mario Bailey.
Frankfurt increased their lead to 29-0 in the third quarter but then the Monarchs managed to rally with touchdowns from Toderick Malone and Reggie Jones.
The Monarchs' next game at Crystal Palace is on Sunday, May 10, against Amsterdam (5pm).
