Fulham entertain Preston North End tomorrow (Saturday) with the club still reeling from the death of 24-year- old fan Matthew Fox at Gillingham last week.
Fighting between both sets of supporters spilled into the streets outside the ground, soon after a tense hard-fought match.
There is no love lost between these two teams, mainly as a result of a 23-player brawl in a match played on this ground a couple of years ago.
The two goals came from Adi Akinbiyi, who recently turned down an offer to join the Cottagers.
Peter Beardsley had a disappointing first game in a Fulham shirt as his new side failed to manage one goal attempt throughout the 90 minutes.
The first goal came from a bad slip by ex-Gillingham player Neil Smith to allow Akinbiyi to slot the ball past Maik Taylor.
A Matthew Lawrence error in the final minutes allowed Akinbiyi to complete the scoring.
