TWO of Harlow Running Club's girls relay teams are among the best in the UK according to the recently published 1997 track rankings.

The U13 3x800m squad, comprising Liz Muggeridge, Shamilla Rajcoomar and Tina Tesatgrossa, was proclaimed the second quickest in the UK after their remarkable performance which came in the Essex Championships at Thurrock where they posted a time of 7min48.7secs.

The U15 girls team of Naomi Brownless, April Martin and Jackie Socas, all first year runners in this age-group, have also excelled, claiming a UK ranking of tenth with their time of 7:33mins at the same event.

There was more success for three of the girls at last week's Southern Inter Counties Cross-Country match in Berkshire. Jackie, Tina and Liz all represented Essex Schools who won the junior event. This was despite the having to compete in heavy training shoes after the county coach drove away with their spikes.

Jackie finished tenth from over 100 of south England's top young athletes. Tina and Liz were both making debuts and finished 20th and 21st respectively.
