Tracey Morrissey was unaware that the birth of her second son would be a double celebration.

But the arrival of Lewis Charles at 40 minutes past midnight on January 1 in Barnet Hospital meant that the 7lb 10oz baby was the first to be born in Barnet in 1998. He was one of four babies born on New Year's Day at the hospital.

Tracey and husband John, who live in Friern Barnet, also have a three-and-a-half year old son called Jonson. Tracey said: "Lewis is brilliant. I would like to say a special thank-you to the staff at the hospital, especially mid-wife Marina Costello."

*Anna Marie Sullivan from The Hyde was over the moon come New Year's Day with the arrival of her first child, Megan.

The 8lb 9oz bundle was due to appear on Christmas Day but she held out a whole week before finally arriving at 12.25am at the Royal Free. Mrs Sullivan, 25, said her daughter was "absolutley gorgeous".
