FAR TOO SMOKY
I have to attend the Queen Elizabeth Hospital quite often as my son is an outpatient. On walking up to the entrance, both my son and I, have to cover our noses and mouths so as not to breathe in the smoke. The number of patients and visitors smoking at the entrance, not to mention the number of dogends lying around on the floor, is dreadful. Do these people have to smoke there. What of the health benefits of people arriving for treatment only to be bombarded with cigarette smoke. Surely the hospital should insist the entrance be made a non-smoking area. Surely I am not alone in feeling this.

ENGLISH PRIDE
Wherever I go, English people express concern that on official and non-official documents (like hospital forms), we may no longer call ourselves English. This is unacceptable. I will continue to put English down when required and not white British, or white European. I will also cease to vote in elections. All those who think as I do should do the same. If this is a result of too many Scots in our parliament, we must bar them from our elections. Let's bring back that old war song "There will always be an England".

IN SEARCH OF ...
I am searching Edie (Edith) and Lolo (Florence) Hughes. They were daughters of Charles and Florence Hughes who lived in Wittlesham Road in Downham at least until the late 1940s. Charles Hughes was a brother to my grandmother Louisa Hughes, who died in 1914. I have only recently heard of the existence of this brother and his family. I understand the family came from Cork in Ireland. If I cannot contact the daughters, I would like to find any grandchildren. Any help you are able to give would be greatly appreciated.

PARKS FOR RENT?
Has anybody else noticed Manor House Gardens is to be rented out for a private function in April? What happened to the ethos of public parks? Has it been removed without telling the public? Will our parks be up for rent?
