Pupils from the BRIT school of Performing Arts and Technology helped the glittering award ceremony run smoothly by preparing the stage set for girl pop group Mis-teeq.

The music award's profits are donated to the British Record Industry Trust, BRIT, which funds Croydon's BRIT school, Britain's only free performing arts school.

And last Wednesday at the BRIT awards' show, some of the students got the chance for some exceptional work experience by getting the set ready for their pop idols, and meet them backstage.

BRIT student Natasha Boyle, 17, said: "We met Mis-teeq who were really friendly.

"My favourite singer is Sting and I saw him just before he went on stage."

Charlotte Lucas,16, said: "I was standing in a speaker on stage and I punched it forward when Mystique came onstage.

"I certainly wouldn't mind being a backing dancer for some of the pop groups we saw that night."
