BUS DANGERS

Frank Hodgson's letter (News Shopper, February 13) certainly rang bells. My father of 79 sustained internal injuries when the bus driver accelerated as he was about to sit down, throwing him backwards along the bus. He landed on the sharp corner of the seats. The driver did not respond. A fellow passenger helped him sit down but he was hurt and distressed and has lost his confidence to travel on a bus. In response to my complaint, the bus company advised: "Please be aware that cameras operate on these vehicles". Was it suggesting my father invented the story? I'm convinced passenger safety needs reviewing.

TRANSPORT LINK

The possibility of the tram coming to Greenwich is a marvellous idea. No decision has been made yet but if Ken Livingstone wants his transport strategy to work, improved links in Greenwich would be a real benefit. With such a proposal there should be a massive reduction in traffic on the borough's roads, aiding essential vehicles such as the emergency services and reducing the incidence of asthma. A new transport structure would be a massive boost to tourism and to residents living in the borough.

BRING ON KILOS

You know, it really is amazing. I have just read your story about the "metric martyrs" and have to say I am amazed at people's opinions. People in this country need to embrace Europe for the free-thinking, democratic, possibility it is. I am sick of the little islander mentality. I really wish people would take on kilograms, stop bleating about the war and see Europe as a chance for us to prosper.

TOO AMERICAN

I am not looking forward to these Lewisham mayoral elections in May. This is not because I am against people having the right to vote, but because this country gets more like America every day. A directly-elected mayor would give one person all that power. We are on a slippery slope which has given us American brands all over our high streets and "President Blair". Bring back old-fashioned British ways?
