ENFIELD electrician and lightweight boxer Michael Grant moved a step closer to realising his Commonwealth and Olympic Games dream after cruising into the quarter-finals of the England senior ABA finals.

Grant, who fights out of Haringey Police club, proved to be too tough for opponent Robert Sictorness in Thursday's 60 kgs bout, which was stopped in round four as the Repton fighter took some severe punishment.

He said: "I was quite surprised how easy I stopped him, because the previous fight was much harder than I had in this London final.

"I am over the moon at the moment, because my dream of progressing to the Commonwealth and then the Olympics is still on."

Grant, who has just turned 18, will now meet Andrew Morris in Liverpool for the next stage of the competition on March 15 and while he knows it isn't going to be easy, the young fighter has no doubts about his ability to progress.

He continued: "I can't wait for the next stage and while I know it isn't going to be easy because my opponent is number two in the country for the seniors in my weight division.

"But I aim to knock him off his spot, because I have been training hard for these championships and I haven't got any doubts of losing now.

"And while it may be my first year in these championships nothing is going to get in my way of winning it."
