Chislehurst boxer Sam Webb is through to the quarter-finals of the National ABA Championships after winning the London title at York Hall, in Bethnal Green, last Thursday night.

Representing Bromley & Downham Boxing Club and fighting at light-middleweight, Webb found himself up against the experienced Danny Cadman from the local Repton ABC.

Cadman started the bout by moving very quickly around the ring and his movement looked like it might give Webb some problems.

But in round two Webb started to find his man with a series of good scoring blows and by the third was forcing Cadman to back-pedal across the ring.

Cadman was forced into holding Webb to take a breather and prevent further punishment, and he incurred the referee's displeasure, who gave him a public waring in round three and then a second, which resulted in disqualification, in the final round.

Not that it would have mattered much as Webb was surely a long way ahead on points.

Webb, who had outpointed Eric Piekaikiewkz from the Wandsworth-based Earlsfield ABC in the semi-final the week before, now travels to Liverpool on March 16 for the last eight.

But Bromley's Sam Mullins was to so fortunate as Webb.

Fighting for the Bermondsey-based Fisher Downside ABC in the London featherwight title final, Mullins was stopped in the second round by William Concoran from Paddington's Stowe ABC.
