THE campaign against buses travelling through Fotheringham Road in Enfield started to gather pace this week.

The Enfield Independent last week revealed the strength of public feeling about the number of cars allegedly hit by buses.

More residents in the road and surrounding streets have come forward to sign the petition this week and Joanne Craft, who is orchestrating the protest, said that there were now more than 50 names on it.

She has also made an appointment to meet Joan Ryan, MP for Enfield North, on March 1, to discuss what can be done about the problem.

Several nearby roads have now been leafleted with flyers detailing the campaign.

Ms Craft and her mother and co-organiser Barbara Lamp will wait until after the meeting with Ms Ryan to present the petition to the council and MPs, to give time for more concerned residents to add their signatures.

Ms Craft said: "We have had quite a bit of feedback. There was one man who came round who actually had part of a bus bumper in his boot to show as evidence."

Elaine McFarlan, of nearby Seaford Road, also contacted the Independent on the issue.

She said: "The buses just come bombing down the road. I think something needs to be done about it."

Speaking last week Pal Batty of Arriva London said: "As long as we are provided with information like the date, time, bus registration number, or especially any witnesses we will pay compensation.

"We obviously want to get along with the residents."
