TWO violent carjackings in two days have left motorists on edge and police appealing for calm.

A 37-year-old man was driving his blue Mazda 626 in Bilton Road, Greenford on Tuesday last week at around 5pm when he was forced to slow down by two teenagers who walked onto the road.

As the driver stopped, one of the suspects started thumping his fists down onto the car's bonnet.

The furious owner got out of his car to confront the young man and was grabbed by a third suspect who came from behind him. The third man whipped the keys from the hand of the startled driver, got into his car and sped away.

The driver turned back around to face the original two men, only to see them escaping in their own car, a green Fiat Punto. The owner of the Mazda, licence plate number R241 EFA, described the three men as white and in their late teens or early twenties.

The day before, a driving instructor was pulled from his car as it was parked outside a Victoria Wine off-licence in Ruislip Road, Greenford.

Two men opened the driver's door and dragged him outside the car and onto the floor. The licence plate number of the stolen Vauxhall Corsa s LT51 FWB. Neither car has been recovered.

Both incidents are being dealt with by Southall Robbery Unit where Chief Inspector Ron Spurs insisted that there is nothing very unusual in either robbery.

He said: "I think carjacking is the media's 'offence of the month' so that if it happens at the moment it will be covered in the news. Figures haven't gone up and Ealing does not have an epidemic, although these two cases are quite violent."

Crime prevention officers will be at the Tesco Express petrol station in Uxbridge Road, Acton from 3-6pm on Monday to raise awareness of carjacking.
