Croydon's Mela, to be held in Lloyd Park on Sunday, July 15, between 1pm and 7pm, is to be the biggest in London this year, featuring some of the best performers in Asian music writes Angeline Albert.
Highlights of the free event include Sister India, a group of performers led by DJ Ritu, and combining a fusion of Asian and Western sounds.
Dalvinder Singh, who received Best Newcomer at the Asian pop awards 2000 will also be present, performing popular bhangra tracks.
Another big star is Najma Akhtar, who is famous for her fusion of western jazz and asian forms. Panjabi MC remixes bhangra dance classics with his own sounds, leading to many No.1s on the UK Bhangra charts.
One of the great musical figures of Pakistan is 70-year-old Ustad Gulam Hassan Shagan, who is making his debut in the UK at this year's Mela.
The classical master will be performing The Bhara Khayal songs, the most profound of Hindustani songs.
The event promises to be a great family day for all, featuring an area for children's activities and a community stage featuring local talent, all bringing together the sounds, sights and smells of the Asian sub-continent.
