An elderly Croydon resident says he is fed up with greeting an assault course of rubbish and congested roads every time he steps outside his home.

Frederick Kay, of Wingate Crescent, is livid that the street has been allowed to decay and believes it could prove dangerous for citizens.

Mr Kay explains that it is totally unacceptable that residents are being forced to live in a battle field. He said: "There's rubbish all over the place . There are cars on both sides of the road and untaxed vehicle - a fire engine would not be able to get down here." Jim Brannen, divisional director of environmental services, said: "The mess outside Mr Kay's property is not what you would call regular household waste - it includes dumped gas bottles - but it certainly does need a good clean-up which we will get in hand immediately."
