Croydon Council's Shrublands estate got its very own website, aimed at further building a sense of community, at their local advice & coffee shop last week.

The website www.shrublands.net has been built by the residents themselves contains news about local community events and issues, copies of local newsletters, along with pages compiled by the estate's younger residents entitled Youth Matters, and offers the opportunity for those new to computers to learn how to use the Internet.

There is even a cookery section where local people can contribute their own recipes, handy hints and fascinating food facts.

Residents can access the site at home or using computers just installed at the Advice & Coffee Shop at 7 Broom Road.

The website is just one of a series of community and regeneration initiatives which have attracted a local authority in for a fact-finding visit.

The party of councillors and officers from Ashford Borough Council are particularly keen to hear direct from local residents about the estate's Community Action Forum and Community Action Plan.

These were launched last year as part of an ongoing drive led by local householders and community groups to revitalise Shrublands.
