A special three day programme of events to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee is being put together. Liz Kwantes and Brian Clews are putting together a Cookham carnival package which should appeal to local people of all ages who may want to enjoy special celebrations for the Royal jubilee from June 1 to 3. For the Silver Jubilee there was a giant children's party held in Cookham High Street and lots of high jinks including the lighting of beacons and fireworks.

Cookham Parish Council has persuaded Liz Kwantes to mount a weekend of local fun and games with all events being held in a giant marquee to be sited on Cookham Moor. This will be large enough to take about 500 people and the first event will be a children's party followed by a barn dance on the Saturday.

On Sunday there will be a combined church service to embrace all local churches in the giant marquee and this might be followed by a party tea for senior citizens.

Monday will see a fun day which may include a barbecue and a concert. A colour photograph of a Cookham scene painted by the late Sir Stanley Spencer may be given to all local school children to commemorate the Jubilee.

CONCERN over poor policing in the three Cookhams continues to worry local residents who want a better police presence in the area at all times.

"We do urgently need more help and we can never have too many volunteers" said Liz Kwantes.

There was a fellowship lunch on Sunday for those who generally eat meals on their own and would enjoy making new friends.
