THE first community electric vehicle in Essex has been launched in Harlow.
The Eco Wagon, run by local charity Rainbow Services, will be used in the town to collect paint, aluminium and textiles for reuse and recycling.
The rainbow-covered converted milk float will also visit schools, fairs and other events to spread the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle message.
Rainbow recycling manager Sue Spiller said: "We're very excited to be setting such a good example of green recycling. The electric vehicle produces no fumes and is very economical to use, costing only 50p per night to recharge.
"It's also a lovely, bright, fun vehicle which we hope will catch everyone's attention and provide Rainbow Services with new clients, new volunteers and lots of donations."
The items collected will be available to Harlow residents on a low income at the Rainbow Services clothing Project in Slacksbury Hatch and the Prentice Place depot in Potter Street.
