A DAZZLING display of flowers, fruit, vegetables, cookery and handicrafts greeted visitors to Haddenham Horticultural Society's Annual Open Show last Saturday. There were also displays by many village organisations giving details of their work and opportunities for joining. The society's president, Ian Chalk, thanked all the committee for their hard work in mounting the show and he then presented trophies to the winners.

Ray Orchard - Mabel Parkinson Memorial Trophy for most points in all classes, the Dick Rose Memorial Cup for vegetables and the Banksian Medal for most points in horticultural classes (where the exhibitor has not won this class for two years); Brian Plastow - the Robert G Green Challenge Cup for vegetables (points won by Haddenham resident); Ray Holmes - the Pilcher Perpetual Trophy for fruit classes; Graeme Hollingdale - the Major Sladen Challenge Cup for flower classes; Paul Wright - Bert Wells Perpetual Trophy for dahlias; M Penn - Laurels Chrysanthemum Challenge Trophy. Ann Mary Johnstone and Marilyn Pipe were joint winners of the Joan Thame Perpetual Trophy for floral art. Ann Mary Johnstone also won the Emma Balcombe Trophy for baking; David Capon - Floyd Trophy for photography; Christine Wheeler-Cherry - Win Gregory Trophy for preserves; David Jordan - Thomas Forster Perpetual Trophy for bread classes; Tim Shaw - Silver Challenge Cup for wine; Pauline Pledger - Alan Boddington Memorial Trophy for Art; Mrs E Saunders - Haddenham Horticultural Society Challenge Cup for Handicraft classes; Chantal Evans - Shield for children under 11; Rebecca Harding - Shield for children aged 11-15.

THIRTEEN-year-old Joe Slaughter of Crabtree Road, Haddenham, a pupil of Lord Williams' School, and his friend Liam Jackman, also 13, who attends Princes Risborough School, held a garage sale and raised nearly £70 for Multiple Sclerosis. Well done!

on Saturday, September 7 (Saturday, September 8) the sponsored cycle ride and walk for Bucks Historic Churches Trust is being held. Walkers are invited to meet at Haddenham Parkway Station at 11.15am to catch a train to Princes Risborough (note - free travel on production of your sponsorship form). Cyclists to go to St Mary's Church at any time. All Haddenham churches are taking part although the Methodist Church will not be open.

THE Last of the Super Fetes, as the members of the Catholic Church call their annual event, will be held at Banks Park and the Scout and Guide Centre on Saturday, September 7 at 11.30am. There will be plenty of stalls and competitions for all ages.

HADDENHAM Youth Football Club is holding a football fun day on Sunday, September 9 with a tournament and annual awards for all age groups from under six to under 13. Please be at the fields by 11.50am.
