RESIDENTS are invited to two open days to discuss plans to relocate sewage treatment from High Wycombe to Little Marlow.

Sewage is currently treated at Thames Water's High Wycombe Treatment Works, near Bassetsbury Lane, High Wycombe.

However, there are plans to switch to the company's other site at Little Marlow because the Wycombe works are earmarked for redevelopment under the Wycombe District Local Plan.

The Wycombe Marsh works is being promoted for a mixed use retail, business and residential development.

Under the plans, sewage from the Wycombe site will be piped 5km to Little Marlow. A second pipe will take treated water back along the route and into the Wye.

Water chiefs say the planned upgrade of Little Marlow will improve the quality of water discharged into the river.

Jon Griffiths, of Thames Water, said: "We still need to seek planning permission in order to carry out the work, but we want to give people the opportunity to find out more about what we propose, and ask any questions they may have."

The work would take about two-and-a-half years to complete with improvements at Little Marlow hoped to start next year.

The High Wycombe works would be taken out of use by the end of 2004.

The first session will be held today at Bassetsbury Manor, Bassetsbury Lane, from 3pm to 8pm. The second will be at Abbotsbrook Hall, Well End, from 3pm to 8pm tomorrow.
