HARLOW returned to form last Saturday, finally securing their first win since March 14 with a 2-1 victory over Whyteleafe at the Sports Centre.
The visitors, still holding out aspirations of promotion before the game, looked sharp in the opening minutes and came close when striker Danny Nwanze crashed the ball against the crossbar from ten yards.
After their fortunate escape, Harlow began to come back into the game and took the lead on the half hour when Neil Moore's defence-splitting ball found the versatile Marvin Samuel.
Samuel, playing up front in the absence of Marc Salmon (flu) and John Coley (suspension), took the ball cleanly in his stride and slotted the ball to the keeper's right to put the Hawks in front.
Whyteleafe replied with a Dean Lock free kick that brushed past the right hand post just three minutes later.
The visitors continued to press and managed a deserved equaliser six minutes from the break.
Another free kick from Dean Lock from just outside the area seemed to have been held safely by James Hasell. However, the keeper then lost control of the ball and Gary Elliott was on hand to stab the ball home.
Whyteleafe's defence had looked rather suspect from the start, continuously struggling to deal with long balls from defence and midfield.
So it came as no surprise to the Hawks' faithful that Harlow's winner originated from just this type of situation.
A long ball from the right back position found Martin Young, who after cutting inside his marker, was cruelly hacked down and the referee had no option but to point to the spot.
Samuel slotted home the penalty for his second of the game, and despite Lock hitting the crossbar three minutes later, Harlow held on for the three points.
On Monday, Harlow earned a well deserved point when they drew 2-2 at Wealdstone. Goals from defender David Gray and Samuel's third of the weekend (his second from the penalty spot) secured a deserved point for Harlow.
